The late Brazilian artist Mira Schendel was born in Switzerland, travelled to São Paulo, and then devoted her life to making intricate, prolific, gnomic artworks in her living-room. In 2013, I flew to Brazil to investigate her life, her times and her legacy for Guardian Review, ahead of a major show at Tate Modern.
